Established primarily as a Golf Club in 1954, the Yowani Country Club overlooks the northern entry point to Canberra, at the Barton Highway (from Yass & Melbourne) and the Federal Highway (from Goulburn & Sydney) intersection. The club sprung up from extremely humble origins, and much of its infrastructure was missing in those early days. The club was built from scratch, with painstaking efforts from the earliest members, who were instrumental in virtually shaping the course (with sand greens) and the Clubhouse facility from ex-army huts wholly by themselves. Since then, in the last fifty years, the Yowani Golf Club has made tremendous leaps in modernizing and developing its resources, as a result of which the club has become one of Australia’s most coveted, and highly regarded inland courses. The club was converted into a Country club in 1969, by supplementing the in-house amenities with three top-tier bowling greens, which are regarded as the best in the ACT. The seventies saw large scale renovations and modernization of the clubhouse, as well as the course which became Flood resistant. Messrs Nagle and Cooper were asked to continue overseeing the changes the transformation in the fairways and the greens, and they have made excellent work by making this course nearly resistant to accumulating water. Six holes on the course have artificial lakes as obstacles, making for an interesting series of water hazards.
